Nope, gotta be 'tygon' tubing.... Size is 'long enough to reach from the fuel pump to the carb'.. ;)

Re: carburetor sight tube replacement

Can a marine-rated inline fuel filter connected with USCG approved fuel line be used as a sight glass in lieu of the Tygon tubing?

As long as it's not in the engine compartment, yes. No glass 'sight bowl' is allow in the engine compartment due to the likelihood of breaking in the event of a fire.

Chris; I went back to the Moeller page and in the fine print it confirms what you stated above. I assumed that a "Marine" product was listed for any marine use in any location. Thanks for that info! Is there any other product listed for that use or is the "Tygon" the only product to use? It just doesn't "look" like it is up to the task..... I have seen materials that look similar that literally decompose after a few weeks contact with gasoline/petrol.

Thanks.

Tygon is a product name. We use it on our equipment offshore, for carrying hydraulic oils.

Here's a link to the rating by the C.A.R.B. Tygon tubing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The other thing to remember, while tygon is rate to carry fuel, in this case it should only have fuel in it when the fuel pump diaphragm ruptures. Other than then, it should be empty....

The correct tube is a bit pricey, but I don't scrimp on things that go in the engine compartment. Order it online, get it delivered to your house, put it on... and have no worries.

Do they often fog up over time or is likely a sign that there is fuel in there?

mine turned yellow with age. I replaced it when I replaced my fuel pump after the tube did its job to direct fuel to the carb when my fuel pump diaphragm cracked (damn ethanol fuel!). Didn't really "see" fuel in the tube, but saw it coming into the carb airhorn while troubleshooting a flooding problem.
