I have a 1968 Merc 110. Serial 2472553. It starts and runs ok/good but when I "run" at top end for a while (getting to the fishing spot) and come back to idle speed it runs like crap and dies. If I baby it for a while (15 minutes +-)it will idle. Then if I run again I get the same thing.
Monday I stopped on my way off the lake to take a picture and it died. When I started it again I could not get to top RPM. It was like it was bogging down.

Any help would be great.

To much fuel?

You have described alot of probems, first you could be losing fire on 1 cyl, the engine could be over heating, due to a bad water pump or a lean condition. I think I would go with an ign. loss first

Take a old plug and cut the ground electroid off it, use it a spark gapmand pull the motor over ck to see if spark is the same on both cyl. IF it's not ck the pts and cond. first

Laddies,
I had no spark in the #1. That plug was wet and black also. Turns out that the spark plug rubber boot was not attached to the wire! Got that fixed but now can't find my feeler gage to set points. Points look great also.

I'll let ya know what happens next! Thaks for the help thus far.

Murray
