I need a carburetor for my 1986 8HP Johnson Sailor. Do I have to use one from a 8HP Sailor or can it come from a different motor? If so what years and motors?

The motor is a 8hp sailmaster not a sailor. I know there is a 9.9 sailmaster but don't know if they interchange. Thanks, Mitch

There are parts diagrams for Johnson and Evinrude engines with all the part numbers on the Bombardier-Evinrude website which will enable you to find the answer to your question.

I went to the website and they don't list my Model. It is a model J86RLCCS. S# B7629378 made in Belgium. So I am still lost.

I am sure any of the 8hp carbs will work as long as it it the same basic type (for instance - you can't swap one with a primer choke for one with a butterfly choke).

Also, you can use a carb off a 9.9hp. Enough folks have swapped their 9.9 carbs for 15hp carbs that there ought to be a few around. Not 100% certain, but I think the 9.9 and 8hp carbs are the same, or at least very close - close enough to swap without problems.... You cannot use the 15hp carb on the 8....

- Scott

I think you've misread the model number. I think it is J8SRLCCS.
J=Johnson, 8=8hp, S=Sail, R=Rope start (I think) L=longshaft & CC=88

Hey Scott, Thanks for the information. I know 9.9's are a lot easier to find and I will start looking for one. Vic, you are correct I miss read the S as a 6. Thank you for setting me straight and keeping me from looking like a fool at the parts counter. Mitch
