On a 1993 Johnson 40hp. 2cyl. 2stroke with 2carbs. Got the carbs. overhauled and put back on, set the float like
Joe Reeves said and I have no leaks, THANKS JOE but idle is around 1500rpm. I Stated to do a synchronization,
but am having trouble with the Seloc book, it is hard to follow, it has different engines in the same paragraph,
it would be better to have one procedure, from start to finish for one engine. According to the Seloc manual the
adjustments on this engine are way off, the spark control rod is 2.3/8" long and the manual says it should be
2.5/8", I`m following the 25-55hp. (737cc) 2cyl. models in the manual, the synchronization starts on page 2-65
in the maintenance & tune-up part of the book, is that the engine or have I picked the wrong one?
The model number on this engine is TJ40ELETB. I can use any and all the I can get.
MANY THANKS............HAS

Re: Carburetor info.

Well, I suppose a SELOC Manual is better than nothing, but not much.

Is it on muffs or in the water? Under load or not? Makes a big difference.

Its on muffs, I would like to get it to run better before I put it in the water, the adjustments being so different then
what is in the manual, still makes me think I might not be reading about the right engine. This is my
brother-in -laws engine, and I have never worked on a Johnson outboard, so its all new to me. I need all the
help I can get to get this thing right........THANKS AGAIN........HAS

Re: Carburetor info.

None of the adjustments should be made with the throttle cable attached so DISCONNECT it. Even the factory manual for your engine would likely have more than engine covered so read carefully. Here is the information I have. The actual procedures beyond the rod adjustments should be obvious in your manual.

Throttle control rod length: 7-5/8 (all except 1993 & later rope start and 48 HP. 7-13/16 all others

Spark control rod length: 2-5/8 (all except 1993 & later rope start and 48 HP)

Idle speed screw: Loosen lock nut and adjust for 1/2 inch between of screw and lever.

Then sync the throttles

Then adjust cam follower pickup point

Then wide open throttle stop adjustment

Then maximum spark advance

Then slow speed mixture adjustment

Then Idle speed adjustment

Then throttle cable adjustment

Re: Carburetor info.

Hey HAS I can understand your pain in dealing with that seloc book. I burned mine in the shop fireplace this week because of the exact same issue with trying to figure out my link n sync from that poor excuse of a manual. My real service manual arrives today in the mail :)

I would never recommend anyone buy a seloc book, they cover way to many motors and have very poor diagrams and instructions. Seloc manuals should come with a separate manual that explains how to read and decypher the damn thing! A waste time and money IMO
