Carburetor compatibility with 1989 MerCruiser 3.7. I have many posts of problems for the past year and I feel like going to buy a new carburetor and I could resolve it once and for all. I am going to buy a new used Mecrusier 3.0 2bbl carb will it be OK on my 3.7 470? will it be enough? I am thinking it should be close enough , I am I right or wrong?

You are probably wrong. Before buying a new used carb of the wrong engine i would send your original one to a place like Mikes Carb shop fir a competent rebuild

Aside from the jetting, what's different on the carbs? Both the same mercarb/Rochester's, right? But just slapping a 3.0 carb on there is asking for trouble

Jetting
Power valve size
Venturi cluster may be different. Assume diff in accelerator pump nozzle size idle and main air bleeds

When I repowered I looked at using the 4.3 mercarb on the new 5.0 those were the differences in searching parts of carbs between these engines. May not be the same
In all cases, but if someone one is looking for bolt on hood performance I wouldn’t count on it

Fair, but just like putting any non-stock carb on an engine, it would work fine if tuned correctly. But either way putting one on a poorly running engine in hopes of it running better isn't the best strategy...
