I have a 1981 70 HP Mercury 3-cylinder outboard and I need to clean the two carburetors because of poor running since I started using Mercury?s Quickleen fuel additive. I think the additive may have loosened up particles and is affecting the carburetor performance. The motor ran flawlessly up to this point.
My Seloc service manual indicates that following any carburetor service you must time and synchronize the motor. However many times in these forums which I read regularly, I have read recommendations from contributors to clean carburetors to solve fuel related problems, yet no one has mentioned to do the timing and synchronization. My question, is the timing and synchronization a procedure that should be carried out? I appreciate any help that you may be able to offer.
