carburetor adjustment

have 3.0 mercruiser with points distributor changed distributor to electronic conversion started up and when tried to throttle up it backfires through carb tried to adjust carb with screw by carb and screw by throttle now it wont start at all need help thanks

If it was running fine before you changed to pertronix my guess is either your timing or your firing order is off, i'd recheck both.

Pertronix and Hot Spark recommend checking the timing after installation. Makes sense that other brands would be similar. They also recommend bypassing the ballast resistor. Check the installation instructions and FAQ's from the manufacturer but it really sounds like timing. I have Hot Spark and don't recall the instructions saying anything about carb adjustments.
