Carbureted or Fuel Injected?

Why are most boats - even late model ones - carbureted? FI has been a proven technology for decades in cars, why not boats? Is there a technical reason?

I'm trying to buy a particular boat, but if it falls through I wouldn't mind getting a Stingray. They have a Volvo 4.3 FI option, but just about every other engine is carbureted.

Agree with Bruce.....

Take XYZ boat with a 6 or 8 cylinder and add at least 5 grand for fuel injection when purchasing new.

Boats dont follow the same emission requirements that car do...so, as the above have said, it is just cheaper to stay carbed...

EDIT: And I have a carbed engine now...on my next boat I'll pay the extra $ for the MPI.

Of course that is starting to change with catalytic convertors on boat engines.

Touch?...and with the increase in costs for the convertors...a nice (possibly unintended) consequence will be more FI I/O's.

Regardless, the consumer will eat the costs in the long run...
