how difficult is it to de gum the needle and seat in a 82 merc 3 cyl. I am fairly mechanically inclined but I don't want to attempt it if I have to readjust the carbs or anything like that.

Re: carburator

Hi dms

welcome to the list..

as for your carb.. cleaning any carb is relatively simple if you are mechanically inclined.
first stop would be to get a carb kit, (new gaskets and stuff, very cheap to buy, so its worth it.)

pull the carb, don't change any settings, drop the float chamber off, and remove the pin holding the float on.. then you can get the needle out and take a look.. becareful some have a rubber like substance on the tip and you don't want to damage that, (although if you get the kit it will probably have a new one, so you can toss the old one after making sure they are the same.)

thats all there is to it..

if you are not sure of you abilities, then a service manual would be a good addition, (he!! aa workshop manual would be a good addition even if you are sure of your abilities.)

regards

Frank

A TIP!!!!

Get ahold of a 2x8x14 or approx cake pan and do the actual carb dissasembly in, or over the tray that way if any unsuspecting parts drop out they won't go far.
