Hello guys, Ihave a 85 h.p force its a 1985 model model no. 856x5l.I Tryed setting the idle screw as the clymer manual said at 1 1/4 turns from lightly seated position and all i get is spitting small amounts of gas out of the carbs.I can set them at 3/4 - 1 turn out from seated and it will run fine .But when you get to WOT it will run for about 30 seconds then start bogging down then it will pick back up like its running out of gas. pull throttle back to 3/4 throttle and it runs fine. I have rebuilt fuel pump, replaced lines and the primer bulb.can anyone help ??? also thought it might have the wrong carbs.so here is the no. on them.Top one is 581061 middle carb no. 582061 and the bottom is 582061 so if anyone can tell me if these is the wright ones that would be great . thanks for your time

Re: carbs ??

You have the old Chrysler/Force engine...the carbs are to be set at 3/4.

As for the dying out problem You will probebly have to take another look at the Fuel pump and Fuel lines.

TMD

Re: carbs ??

The easy way to see if its the fuel pump, is to squeeze the primer bulb when it happens.

TMD

Re: carbs ??

One thing I've always been told is that all the carbs need to be the same. It is interesting that the one carb has a different number. I would take the carbs apart and check everything, including the jet size.

Shane

Re: carbs ??

Hello guys,I put a piece of clear vinyl tubing in between the fuel pump and the primer bulb to see if it is sucking air .I will try it out in a day or two. Will the vinyl tubing be alright to waight that long to try it? Or can i leave it on there? My motor has a 5/16 hose from the tanks to the fuel pump is that ok or does it kneed a 3/8 in. hose?? Maybe soon i will fix this boat and have this face in the sun --->

Re: carbs ??

3/8 would of course be best.

The tubing should be ok as long as it is Fuel resistant.

TMD

Re: carbs ??

My Seloc manual states that the fuel lines should be 5/16" or 3/8". I know TMD recommends 3/8" throughout. Obviously 3/8" would be best but I don't know that your problem lies in that area. If some of these other suggestions don't pan out, I would certainly consider the upgrade to 3/8's.

How did you put the vinyl tubing in?

Shane

Re: carbs ??

Thanks,Turtle,TMD. I connected it to the fuel pump and exhisting line with a brass fitting. But as far as the line being gas resistance i dont know the box at the hardeware store didnt say if it was or not. but did have a picture of a boat and other things. The lady at the counter said it was i guess she knows what she is talking about. It was the only store around here that i could find it at. Small town! I should have told you guys this also. When i get out of the no wake zone i can go to WOT and will run good for a minute or two almost seems like it is pumping the carbs dry then back down to 3/4 throttle and its ok run there for a minute go back to WOT run fine for maybe 30 seconds to a minute. Thats why i put the clear line so maybe i could see if the problem lies thear. you think it may be something electrical.i have another complete electrical system for it. I also have decarbed it with deep creep sea foam and then brought it home and pulled the plugs and sprayed them down again with sea foam so when istart it again maybe it clan it even more will it be ok spraying it and lettin it set acouple of days?? I am knew at boating guys if iam repeating myelf forgive me i am trying to learn as much as i can from you guys Thanks :)

Re: carbs ??

It sure doesn't sound 'electrical' to me. It does sound like you are starving for gas at higher speeds. It sounds similar to the problem I had when I had the wrong size jets in the carbs. If you've replaced the fuel pump and lines, I would suggest digging into the carbs next.

Shane

Re: carbs ??

Glad you found some problems that were easy to fix. About the vinyl tubing, its for drinking water. It won't hurt the engine but it will get hard and brittle very quickly from exposure to fuel, and you should probably remove it as soon as you have verified that you have no air leaks.

Re: carbs ??

Hey guys,Ithink i finally got it fixed.Ichanged all 3 carbs out the ones i had on the motor was the carbs that had the main jet built in with the screw that held the fuel bowl on. the trouble with them was one of the high speed jets was bad and they are no longer available and couldnt get a rebuid kit either.so iguess the ones i have now are a newer version they are tilson carbs with rebuild kits available at napa.so thanks for all the helpand HAPPY BOATING :) :) :p
