Been working on an old 125 selectric shift a 71 i believe. Finally got it started and running, but it seems like its stuck at full throttle. The controls are at idle, and the carb butterflies are closed? Im learning as i go so not sure where the problem is? If i could get some pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks in advance

Throttle butterflies or the choke butterflies are closed ??-----Or is the plate under the flywheel ( ignition advance ) stuck at full advance ?----Is it up against the rubber bumper ??

It was off the bumper, but still seems to be doing the same thing but now it dies right away also. It fires and runs for 2sec and dies. The bump stop lookes to be fully extended should it be screwed in more maybe?

Do not start adjusting anything with the ---" lets see what happens "--- approach.----- If maximum timing advance is not correct you can do serious damage.-----Best to clean the carburetors first.----When you remove carburetor bowl drain plugs , do you see a green film on the end ?

If you are running on muffs, the bark and roar might fool you if you are new to outboards -- may not in fact be at wot. If you could get the lower unit in a tank big enough to cover the l.u. plus six or eight inches up the leg, it might seem different. If it's really stuck at wot, you don't want to be running that thing.

That sounds easier than rebuilding the carbs. Ill try that first tonight see if that helps

But-----You have to make sure that carburetors are clean and have no blockages.------Remember that on this 2 stroke motor the carburetors are also the oil pump.----A blocked high speed jet might do internal damage to one cylinder.

What i can see inside they do look clean. Theres no excessive carbon or sludge. The bowl drain plug was clean and nothing but clean gas came out. The fuel pump looks new as well as most of the fuel lines so i really have no reason to think there there blocked.
