Carbs pouring out fuel, won't start...

I was on the water and it wouldn't run faster than 8 MPH at first....but periodically it would climb then get to about 35 MPH. If you left it alone you would stay at 35, if you backed off....back to riding around at 8 MPH. I got the rebuild kit and did that, I was surprised to see that the floats are not included in these kits as that's what I suspected. But the floats look fine and have no fluid inside of them, am I looking in the wrong place? The boat started rite up and ran full speed in the yard first try...then came the gas leakage...lol...back to no start.

I read someone with similar problem suspecting the Fuel Pump, could that be it? Because it seems a little unlikely that ALL my floats are bad...the fuel doesn't only pour out the front, but also out the little breather/overflow holes (whichever, idk) on each side of each carb. But I figure if the pump was bad it would not pump sufficient fuel, not too much fuel..right?

Thank you guys for any suggestions :)

Have you rebuilt the fuel pump?

How much smoke are you getting from the engine when running on the water?

Have you checked that the timing is advancing as you rev the engine?

I was thinking about the pump, I have not touched it but will take it off today and give a good long stare...No smoke, and as far as timing..."What Chu Talkin Bout Willis?" lol

Thank You!

I'd double check those float settings before I did anything. Sounds like your floats are improperly adjusted and flooding the carbs out.

Fuel pouring out the carb has to be the float adjustment or the needle and/or seat that the needle rests in.

I agree with SwampThing & foodfisher, you can also put your floats in a container with some fuel in it & let them sit overnight to see if they are still floating the next day.
