I broke the cardinal rule and asked a question in another post. Sorry - here's the question. 89 Force 85HP (evil L-Drive too) . Idles briefly, revs ok. Put in gear and dies. Timing good, compression 130 across the board. Spark good. Mechanic wants to charge me 400 to rebuild the carbs but I cleaned the hell out of them. Were clean before I cleaned em! Saw post about reed pedal breaking and thought that might be my issue. Possible? Another symptom is exhaust coming out the tell-tale I installed from Sticky. Never got warm enough to open the thermosdat. Spits water here and there, but not a steady stream. Anything ring a bell here or is my mechanic making more sense? This motor and I are NOT friends. I just want it purring so I can unload it.
