I had posted a subject on continually fouling plugs in my 94' Yamaha 225. Dhadley replied and I want to thank him for suggesting the carbs. I have already had a carb job because the engine was hesitating. After this is when it seemed to really foul the plugs.
Based on this information how can I adjust my mixture to see if it is too rich. The plugs always foul and have alot of oil around them. I am new to outboard maintenance and am not sure what to check to see if carbs are running to rich. Where are the adjustments for the mixing? Also, wanted to mention since I also see things about the thermostat that the engine even after a long run is not all that hot to the touch. Could the Thermostat cause this also?

Thanks Chris. I wish I knew more about the Yammie stuff to give you a little better direction. I'm sure some Yamaha experts will pop in soon.

Good luck!

I would check to see if there is a themostat. If the motor doesn't have a themostat it won't come up to the proper operating temp. Thus causing a rich condition. After putting one in, maybe have the carbs adjusted by a pro if the rich condition persist. Good Luck
