i hav a 1955 5.5hp johnson and i was just wondering if it would be ok to put a 7.5 hp carb on it. If it is would i get better performance and how much

just looking at may manual, the 5.5 is grouped with the 5. 7.5 is grouped with the 10 hp, so probably not.

One way to find out is to try it. It won't harm anything. But don't be surprised if you actually lose power instead of gaining any.
