I replaced fuel filter and part of fuel line on my barely running Force (1996) 120 outboard and noticed afterwards that when pumping the air from the line that gas was shooting out of the carb. I was having some serious engine problems to begin with so don't know if the problem existed before I made the changes. I was able to pump the bulb tight beforehand so I get the feeling it was something I did. Number 3 plug and cylinder have rust. I recently purchased the repair model and saw no reference to these problems.Thanks.

Re: carb shooting gas

well, when I had gas shooting out of the top of my carb, it was because my float in the carb bowl had a hole in it. Not sure why replacing a filter or line would cause carb gas to shoot out. At these gas prices, that could be an expensive problem :)

I had that problem last year. Right after I rebuilt carb with kit from boatingsolutions.com, it squirted out the vent hole in the carb of my Chrysler 55. I rebuit again with a NAPA kit and no problems. Needle and seat valve were defective. That's where I'd go first.

You may have a bigger problem then a bad needle valve in your carb. That rust is saying you may have a blown head gasket. Before going to far you should get the compression tested. I am willing to bet you have low compression in cylinder number 3

the gasket is easy. If the rings, piston or the cylinder is damaged it becomes quite a bit harder. You can buy a compression tester from sears or an auto parts store for 30 bucks. Nice thing about them is you can use them on your lawn mower, snowblower and your car.

Might check out the reed valves in back of the carbs.. But compression test is number 1 thing to do...
