Carb setting 75 hp elpto

I have the service manual for the 2003 75 hp elpto (serial OT673179)
which says initial carb settings after rebuild are :
CYL #1: 1/4 turn
CYL #2&3: 1 and 1/4 turns.
Can this be right?
Seems the #1 CYL would be very lean at idle (which I do a lot due to manatee zone all over the indian river)
Any experience in this would be appreciated.

Tuning procedure says to "check for too lean mixture" asfter tuning carbs. How do you check for "too lean mixture?"

My Merc manual says 1 1/4 basic setting and reajust in gear to proper mixture. That means turning each screw in till the engine coughs (thats lean) and then adjust in it out just enough for the engine to smooth out. I run the adjustments 2 or 3 time for best idle

thanks.. the 1/4 on #1 and 1 - 1/4 on #2&3 didn't make sense
