Hello board,I have seen numerous times the question "how diffucult the rebuild of carbs are" including myself and do not see an answer.
I have determined that my 150 FastStrike also needs this done. Have gone thru the search engine and have not seen an answer.
With 6 carbs to be rebuilt how do you balance all of them properly?
Thank you for your time.

Re: Carb Rebuild

Howdy, Tex.

If you do not have a manual and know how to use it, overhauling carbs can be a nightmare (very hard). Don't even think about doing it without a manual.

You have three, two barrel carbs. They may not be identical so it is important that you do not mix the parts and that each one goes back where it came off.

With the manual, and care, it is a job that gets easier as you go (pretty easy).

Good luck. :)

Re: Carb Rebuild

Rebuilding a carburetor is not difficult. However there are a few things you'll need.

1) A manual (Very, Very important if your a first timer)

2) Plenty of time to do it. You don't want to be rushing though it.

3) You'll need to be able to follow direction to the letter!!!! Read though the proceedure to give yourself an idea of what the parts are called, where everything is and just to familiarize yourself with the carburetor. This is the most important step.

Even consider getting a couple books about rebuilding carburetors for your application.

4) You'll need to get a can or two of Carb and Choke cleaner. Make sure you spray through all the passages and even the bolt holes. Sometimes gunk can get into the bolt holes and fall into the carb while reassembling it.

5) Work in a clean environment. You want to rebuild your carburetor in a "Hospital Like" setting. No dirt, filing, or saw dust, anything of that nature. I use my kitchen table.(Yes, I'm a redneck)

6) If you can, I advise you take pictures as you take things apart. Just in case you get distracted and forget where something goes. A digital camera is excellant for this.

I think that's about it, maybe someone can also add some pointers. If you get stuck, that's what we're here for.

I rebuilt the 4 barrel carb on my '78 Chevy Pickup, the carb is a Quadrajet, and it runs better than ever. Everybody told me that, that carburetor it one of the most difficult carburetors to rebuild, but I had no problem what so ever. Like I said "FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!!!"

Re: Carb Rebuild

Oh yeah, with you engine, it probably best to completely do one carburetor at a time, as not to get part from one confused with the others.

Re: Carb Rebuild

A great post.Only thing I would add is be very careful with your cleaning stuff. A pilot light
or spark and poof no carb-no kitchen.

Re: Carb Rebuild

Yes, I probably should have added, spray the carb outside and wait for the fumes to disappear.

Good thinking, steelespike
