I rebuilt my carb and it seemed to go ok.The mph at just under full throttle is the same as it was before but I can only get 4600-4700 rpm out of it.If I give it full throttle it like chokes but doesn't die.Any ideas?

Re: carb rebuild problem

First off, why did you rebuild the carb? Was there a problem with how the boat was running? Could be the problem wasn't the carb.

Sounds to me like fuel starvation, although there are other things that could cause the same problem. Did you replace your filters? Is your gas good? Have you tried running it off of a separate tank with gas that you know is good?

Re: carb rebuild problem

I rebuilt the carb because it's nearly 20 years oldand I had another fuel problem so i bought a carb kit, filter and fuel pump. The problem was silicone in the anti siphon check valve which I also replaced. The gas is good.I was wondering if the throttle could be opening to far or the choke is getting pulled shut.I had to bend the throttle linkage a bit I think because the baseplate gasket I was told to use is thinner than th original.

With the exception of the ford 2.3L, you don't run i/o marine engines over 4800 rpm. If you are getting 4700 you do not have a problem.
