I’m in the final stages on the re-power of my 2006 Sea Ray 185 from a 3.0 to a 4.3 Mercruiser and need to rebuild the carb on the 4.3. It’s a mercruiser carb with an electric choke original to the engine and like to hear some comments on the recommended rebuild kits from your past experiences. Is a kit the best option or individual parts from OEM stock? Thanks in advance for you insight.

Thanks Scott, I was looking at Mikes, do you typically buy his floats to replace the stock plastic floats?

I have bought both replacement OEM plastic and the brass ones from Mikes , both work. Plastic ones are very fragile when they come out. My personal preference is for brass.

Hi scott, do You have instructions for adjusting brass float??
No I had to SWAG it as the brass one does Not have the mark on the side that u use for float level. I think the Brass float is from an older Rochester 2 bbl that was the forerunner of the Mercarb. You maybe able to find a float level off one of those instruction kits. they may be on Mikes website.

I have a Rochester Quadrajet on my 4.3LX. No better place than Cliff’s Performance for QJ rebuild kits. You didn’t mention which carb you had, so figured I’d chime in on the QJ.

I second Cliff's. Just read Cliff's book on Quadrajet and then purchased a kit from him. He may be the only one actually modifying the choke pull off diaphragm to open the secondary air valve properly. Also if you have any questions Cliff answers his emails and forum questions daily. Super helpful. My boat runs great!
