Mr. Rodbolt/Ray ,
Could you please tell me how the carbs (yamaha 200 etlf) transition from idle to throttle (or which fuel passages ways control this)...since I see no accel pumps, and I'm wondering how the engine recieves fuel at around 1500-2000 rpm, which is where it seems to sounds like it's starving for fuel....idle is fine and so is any thing above 2200 to full throttle....plugs look great???? It has me baffled!!!

hello
at the top aft part of the carbs you will see 2 large brass screw plugs. they cover the off idle transition holes. the fuel comes from the idle jet in the fuel bowl. the circuits have to be clean. they are small. these carbs have no accelerator pumps. are you positive its fuel? what excactly does the engine do in that range?
good luck and keep posting

Rod, thank you, for your reply!!
What it seems to do, just after you put it in gear (in the water), and you start to throttle, it sounds like a spark miss or gas load up, yet there is no spark miss nor gas load up. I've tried to duplicate it out of the water...and it won't do the miss/load up thing, we did however find, residue(oil gas) at the small jets (below and to the side of the main jets). Larger main jets where clean. Fuel that came out was clean, and smelled fine (not like varnish). Top speed is at 5400rpm, idle is slightly down 1-2 (600) rpm in gear(again in the water), but that may be from the five blade we're spinning.
The large brass screws (2 per carb)that you spoke of, they're the ones above the idle mixture screws? Are these screws only caps, or is there something inside like springs and such?
I just don't want anything jumping out at me.LOL

I also rarely remove them, but in order to clean properly, the carbs should be soaked in carb cleaner ( overnight for me) and all of the passages blown out with air afterwards. I run hot water through them immediately after removing from the cleaner before using the air. Don't do this in your wife's sink or you will really be in trouble. Also check the float heights caerefully when reassembling. Good Luck.
