I have a 1984 mercruiser. It idles just great. If I try to accelerate, the engine bogs down. I have tried to adjust the idle mixture screw, and can make a difference, but can never get it to run well. At most I can get 3000 rpms. I have changed the fuel filters and drained the tank.
Do I need a carb rebuid?

Re: Carb Problems?

When did this problem start? Did you check points or corrosion inside the distributor cap?

I changed spark plugs and points, but did not check the distributor cap for corrosion. Could this be the problem?

Re: Carb Problems?

Possibly,.....
But, I'd be looking at Rebuilding, or replacing the Carb........

BTW,.......
Why'd you do just a Half A$$ed Tune-Up..???
I mean,.. You had the Dist. Cap Off to replace the Points,..... And Didn't Even Look Inside the Cap..???................
How about the Points,...... Did you set them by Eye,.. Or use a Dwell Meter ????
