Ok I have a 1978 Sea Star boat with a 305 and stringer drive I/O. Recently I have replaced the fuel pump, had the carb rebuilt, replaced the spark plugs.... and 2 years ago put in electronic iginition. The problem I am having is...
When I am driving the boat pulling a tube or a skier the boat will be running fine and then it seems like it will run out of gas and just die. If I pump the throttle a couple of times it will fire for a second and die again. If I pump it several times it will run a short time and backfire through the carb and die. After doing all of this several times it will eventually run but not for long and will not run good and I need to constantly pump the throttle. Eventually the boat will run and I can rev it up and it will run good like nothing was ever wrong with it. This usually happens about once a day and will not happen again.
To me this seems like a carb problem or fuel problem somewhere.. could it be vapor lock?
