Just ordered a carb kit for my 1958 johnson 35hp soaked carb over night cleaned and rebuilt, took it to the water noticed bubble wasn.t getting hard. It would idle and run at about half throttle, but not at full throttle, I found out that if i kept manually pumping bubble it would run great at full throttle. I checked some things today Bubble is good and fuel pump is good(mukuni) I think the float was sticking and causing the probleme. Could this be the case?

Re: carb probleme

Is this an old pressure system converted to a fuel pump? Obviously Mikuni wouldn't have been on an original pump model. I'd suspect the pump if it runs good when you pump the bulb.

Re: carb probleme

Yes, i converted it to a mikuni fuel pump. The boat ran fine last summer, the only thing i have did to get it started this year is rebuilt the Carb. Checked the fuel pump by disconnecting the line that goes from pump to starter. When turning motor over i can see that the fuel pump is pumping because it is spitting a good amount of gas. I am almost certain it was the float hanging. I'll find out saturday when i take it to the water.
