I have a '63 35hp merc. The engine bogs when you give it throttle and won't accelerate. Is this the main nozzle causing this?

Re: Carb Problem

I think most will want you do do basic testing before trying to determine such a vague issue.Compression test, make sure spark is strong(on a tester, not "looks pretty good").Could be main jet, could be a multitude of other issues. One could guess fuel(carbs or fuel pump),on could say electrical problems,or one may say compression problems.Simply cannot narrow down w/out more information.

Re: Carb Problem

both cylinders have 140psi compression. I can open the throttle plate in neutral and it will rev way up but in gear if i do the same it bogs. I can run it all day at 1500 rpm so id assume its not a fuel pump issue. I also tested both plug wires and they have good spark and have the right resistance thru them.
I also cleaned the carb and installed a new needle and seat not too long ago. Ajusted the float level as well.

Re: Carb Problem

Make 100% sure it is not a fuel restriction. This could be anywhere from the tank to the fuel pump.

Hows the float?is it the original one ore the newer plastic one?Could be saturated and/or cracked. If you truely believe all to be good except performance on your motor,I would suggest looking up and doing a lync and sync.It could also be high side of stator failing.Read up on that and check also.
