Carb Problem?

Have a 1989 Mercruiser 4.3 liter with the Mercarb on it. I read Don's post on fuel problems. The problem I am having is the boat runs fine on muffs but when I get it in the water it dies when trying to get the boat on a plane. It idles fine and starts fine. The carb was rebuilt by my neighbor who is a mechanic. The reason I had it rebuilt is because it was bogging right before wot. I guess I should have left it alone but to late now. I checked fuel pressure, filter and all gas lines. I also tried opening the gas cap in case it was a venting issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Carb Problem?

Not all carbs can be rebuilt, and I'd bet 75% of the rebuilds are botched.
With the advent of FI, it's a lost art.
Running on muffs is totally irrelavent, there is no load.

Re: Carb Problem?

Could it be that the power valve replacement in the kit was slightly different and is sticking? Otherwise, if I have to replace the carb, is there a recommended site to find one? The carb number on the tag is 3304-9565 and the rebuild kit was a Sierra 18-7098.

Re: Carb Problem?

Can a Rochester carb or another carb be used on this 4.3 (262) liter? I do not see a replacement for the 2bbl Mercarb that I have? The number on the carb is 3304-9565. The Serial number on the block is GM6269732. I believe it to be a 175HP. I can not find anything like this in the Marine store on this site.
