Carb Linkage

Hi, there is a plastic coupling linking the 2 carbs together and mine broke. Rather than ordering a new part at 20$, i was going to glue a plastic or rubber spacer in between them and join them together. Will this work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

rythymaker Your new thread moved out of a 5 year old, inactive thread that had nothing to do with broken carb linkage. Please read the Help Tip on top of the page.

Your fix probably won't work long. The spring pressure will break it again.

Probably not, or not very well or for very long. It will break far from shore, as the sun is setting and a storm is on the Horizon. $20 is not a lot of money.

Thanks guys. Actually the spring pressure never broke it, i broke one side of the thin plastic band holding it together.

Now that you broke it, consider it always broken. Spend the 20 bucks or it will break again when you need the power.

I have no issue spending the money. However i feel the piece should be solid so that both throttle butterflies move together... is that not the point?
Well the way this piece was designed, because of the way it was joined together by the flimsy little plastic strips, there is always a "lag" in how the second (bottom) throttle butterfly opens (because the piece allows for a little give causing a twist/kink). If the piece was solid, there wouldn't be an issue.
The newer builds, 1984 to be exact, have a solid piece of plastic serving the same principal... this simply backs up my theory.
Thanks guys...

When you get the replacement part, it might be the later design, happens a lot with these motors service parts

The other question i have is there are 2 ways of running fuel line out from the fuel pump. One is running 2 separate lines to 2 different carbs (one to each carb directly from the fuel pump - (class 11) OR one line running from the fuel pump to the top carb, then from there running to the bottom carb. (class 13)
2 classes of fuel pump schematics for the same motor same year same serial. lol. Damn old school Mercury. I've spent thousands w/shipping on parts for this motor already. I live in canada and have to order from the US cuz that's the only place i can find the parts i need for this motor on a regular basis and when i need them. Shipping usually amounts to more than each part itself.
This motor ran well @ WOT. I am determined to have it run well again, but sometimes i ask myself, whats the point.
Anyways... any advice on the fuel line schematics would be appreciated.
Thanks again!
Alex

Where in Canada ?---There are lots of good dealers around with parts for Mercury products.
