I own a 1965 evirude 40 H.P. Does anyone know what the linkage is for that goes from the carb to the hand starter. I can't find it in the manual. I think it must be to give the carb a shot of fuel when you have to hand start engine.

Re: carb linkage

It is a locking latch or locking lever. It has to be set correctly to make the manual starter work properly.

Re: carb linkage

A lot of the big twins had that linkage. It stops the pull start from working when the throttle was higher than a certain speed. Thus you cant start it and then the boat takes off and you get thrown out the back.

Exactly. In 1965, the 40HP Evinrude Lark had it as well.

Re: carb linkage

hey, I'm not talking about the locking device on the side of the engine. This linkage is in the front of the motor, it is in the shape of a "U" and goes directly to the carb with very small linkage with a spring hooked to it. I think it is only on the evinrude motors, but not on the Johnsons. Any ideas? It goes up to a slot and touches the hand starter. Any ideas? Porfred
