I got mine from West Marine, but I boats sell them. Now there are two different kits, a "early" and a "late". The major difference is the accelerator pump. Take a look here at part #12: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...r=50&bdesc=CARBURETOR(MERCARB)+(165-170-3.7L) The straight shaft is early the shaft with the 90 degree bend is the late. Here are the kits side by side: Mercarb Rebuild Kits - Carburetor Parts for Rochester Quadrajet, 4G, 2G, Mercarb & Carter AFB, AVS, Thermo-Quad Carburetors Check your carb numper or look at the pump. Good luck.

p.s. According to the numbers on the website 1389-8489 is the early style but check to make sure.

the problem was having was the boat would die when you put the throttle down. ive cleaned the carb and hooked it back up. i cleaned the black crap out of the gas tank, replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the line in between the tank and filter. lots of black crap. could the pump be clogged? any ideas guys? thanks

MBrown,
Does it die when you shift it into gear or after you shift and then give it gas? If it dies when you shift it could be the shift interupter switch or an aging lower shift cable.

My problem is simular.... After running hard, then shutting down, the boat does not want to start. This is my first boat and was wondering if I should rebuild my carb. It takes a long time to restart the motor. I was thinking that the bowl may be going dry.... Ideas?????

Thanks

It would die after its in gear. I could drive around at a low speed but put it down and it starts to go and cuts out.
