Carb. kit 9.9hp johsnon 1988

Got the carb. kit and there is a tiny white plastic cone kinda looking thing in the bag.Don't have this in my carb. and my carb seems to have never had a kit in it.Has old cork style float and needle with rubber tip.What is that thing for?thanks

Older 9.9/15 carbs had a 'needle valve bearing' that fit to tip of low speed needle. Your model doesn't use one. Carb kits commonly cover several year classes of outboard's, and may contain extra parts. Included is a pic of that bearing. If that's the part in question, disregard it.

Thanks.That is it.Just looked up the parts list.1978 looks like last year for that part?

Why is the new style float bigger than the old cork style?

Original cork floats seem to shrink a bit over time sitting in fuel..maybe ethanol fuel?
