Re: carb floats cracked

Would still run, only just and not very well at all. Cracks in the float allows fuel to enter, making the float heavy and unable to float. If the float does not float ( I like that!! sounds cool) the fuel supply is not cut when the float chamber is full. This could lead to flooding and leaking.

If the floats are cracked, it is almost certain that other carb seals, gaskets, jets etc also need attention. That would be more likely the cause of your poor/non running condition. Rebuild kits are relatively cheap.

Good luck.

Re: carb floats cracked

Floats in a carb operate a needle valve that controls the amount of fuel that flows into the float chamber, which in turn enters the engine to be burnt thru the idle circuit or the main jet depending on throttle opening.I the float is cracked it wont float therefore it wont shut off the fuel flow when the level is right. It will cause flooding, excessive fuel consumption, loss of power & generally bad running at best.At worst the engine wont start or run due to an excessively rich mixture.Get a manual, replace the floats, set float level,Replace plugs,Do a link & synch, adjust idle mixture screws etc.The manual will tell you how.The strange thing that happens with engines is the better they are maintained the less problems you have :)
