Carb float -- liquid inside?

Hi,
I've been struggling fuel problems with a 1984 18XD (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=312290). I have a quick question: should there be liquid in the float? If not, I may be onto the problem -- mine is 3/4 full.

Hard plastic floats can crack and fill up. Replace it.

Thanks, Chris. I have a new float on order, but I'm wondering if that's the source of my problem. My problem appears to be something preventing fuel from going into the carb. If the float doesn't float high enough, won't the inlet needle drop down and allow too much fuel in?

interesting, if you over fill the bowl, what happens? does it flood out the motor?
