I seem to not be able to get over the hump and start this engine. The things I know are I am getting fuel to the carbs(tank seems fine). I am drawing and expelling water through the engine(good impeller and pump). Now for what is happening. I start or at least attempt to start the engine. It will run for short spurts then cut out. When it does start it runs like it is wide open and sometimes tries to idle. Then after several attempts it doesn't start at all and the plugs are wet with gas. If this was not troubling enough I attempted to remove the carb to clean and the two studs that hold the carb to the manifold have nuts that cannot be removed. one is blocked by the linkage pin(I could remove this one) and the other is blocked by a section of the casting itself. I thought of removing the manifold, but it too has its issues. Please assist a confused newbie...I do appreciate all replies. thanks

Mattman

How's the spark? Got new plugs? As you loosen the carb bolts evenly, pull away on the carb to remove.

Hi Matt
You must remove the carb and disassemble it for cleaning. You may have to install a carb kit including a float. A lot of the guys call this a rebuild. The nuts you describe can be a challenge. How ever if you remove the linkage (your going to have to anyway) you can get a better shot. I took some old wrenches and bent them to help me. Maybe a crows foot might help. when you do get this this off and cleaned up, make sure you set the float level correctly and install a new gasket on the main nozzle. Reset needle valve according to the book and then adjust.
