Re: carb cleanup
I agree - if you disassemble might as well install the 'rebuild' kit with new gaskets, o-rings, seats, seals, etc etc etc. [Some kit models also include replacement 'tamper proof' aluminum plug discs so you can remove these if used on your carbs.]

I strongly advise you to strip all the jets/nozzles/needles and SOAK the whole deal in appropriate solvent. You can get good carb cleaning solvent from any auto parts store, you do NOT have to use 'Marine Brand' products. I myself just use mineral spirits, acetone, etc. but find something you are comfortable with.

Clean the outside of the carb first, then soak the body, floatbowl, and small parts (jets, etc.) in separate containers if possible.

Now is the time to use your spray solvent, liberally flush out any and all passages in the body and jets/nozzles, etc. Pay close attention to the tiniest holes, these will clog up with the smallest obstructions.

Now, while still dripping solvent, blow out the same passages you just sprayed with compressed air. I just use my homeowner's tire/ball inflator with a 'beachball' style inflator tip. The more psi the better but use what you have available, be careful with the small parts as you can launch your tiny but costly jets into low orbit with 100 psi air if you let it slip out of your fingers.

Reassemble and fire it up!
