Carb cleaners

I have seen several products at the local marina that claim to do wonders for the fuel system and carberators. (Cleaning gum, varnish, deposits, etc.) Since the products states that is for outboard motors and such; what are some of your opinions. I don't think this stuff is a substitute for winterizeing, but might this stuff assist in minimizing potential problems? I've yet to try this stuff as this upcoming winter will be my first with a 1996 Suzuki 9.9hp two stroke. Thanks everyone for your responses. Ken
