Hi all,
First. How much dirt does a flame arrestor allow into a marine engine? Also, is there some type of foam sleeve or cover you can use to better filter this air? And still be legal!
Second will dumping out the water seperator and filling it with gumout and starting the engine clean the passages in the carb Without harming anything?
Have a great weekend, AL

Re: carb and flame arrestor question.

Flame arrestors are not air filters. Most boats do not need them due to the lack of dust in the marine environment. I'm sure there are some exceptions to that generality like offshore in the mideast.

Most cleaner additives are intended to be administered in relatively diluted solution. I'm not sure how gumout is intended to be administered but it sounds like you'd most likely be trying to run the engine on a bigger gulp than was ever intended.

IMHO, it doesn't sound like a good idea.
