Im new to this and have found lots of different opinions about a hull thru exhaust. Im not looking for extra power, just a nice sound from my engine. I have a 98 maxum 2000 srl with a 5.7 merc and alpha one drive. I have ordered the captains call though corsa because of the ability to change from loud to stock. I hear some say even with it closed it will still make noise out the hull, others saying through the hull is way too loud and to use muffler tips instead of the straight pipe tips that come with the kit and others have said its not that loud because the water being discharged muffles the sound. Im not a guy trying to impress anyone or picjk up girls, Im 28, married and just like the sound of a V8 but want to make it quiet too so I dont annoy anyone. Any advice on this and any advice on installation. Thanks alot!

Howdy,

I had the Corsa Capts Call on my Liberator when I had the 460 installed.

I almost never ran it thru hull because it was so loud, that anyone else in the boat would usually scream at me (TURN IT OFF, TURN IT OFF!!!!)

It might be ok with decent muffler type tips. but not with straight thru tips.

In the "off" mode it was pretty quiet....in fact it was completely quiet.

You didn't say where you are. Some States have noise laws that don't allow you to modify the exhaust to thru hull. and if you have it and you use it the boat cops will give you a ticket. you'll have to determine that for yourself.

When I swapped out the OMC junk for the Mercruiser junk, I did not re-install the Capt Call.

and by the way, it didn't make any difference in the performance either...

Regards,

Rick

Thanks for your input Rick, my 350 is just a baby compared to your 454. Im in Va Beach. I know most of the boat cops if not all of them since I work for the pd here. I probably shouldve had them send the muffler tips. You know of any other companys besides corsa to get them from? Thanks...

I really don't. Sorry,

I see them all the time on ebay though. I have toyed with putting my CC back on my boat since I still have the holes in the back....I wouldn't even consider it with the straight-thru tips though....It was just "Gawd-awful" loud!....I would have to have the mufflers...

Yeah, I had a feeling it would be way too loud. Im looking at a set of tips that a guy is selling. It came off the corsa quick and quiet 2 system. Atleast I will be able to shut it off. Hopefully the muffler tips will quiet it down a lot and sound good.

I have a 5.7 with thru hulls (not my choice), but they are not that loud; the water really seems to muffle it. I've been on boats with louder outboards.

If you want a good sound and not a lot of noise go with what the inboards have. They run the exhaust to a Y collector then into a muffler then out the transom. It sounds great, not too loud. Find someone with an inboard and check it out.Jerry

As Coors stated, I purchased a boat that had them, thinking it would be to loud, but it is not bad.

My engine is a 305 with Straight 4 inch pipes, and no mufflers coming out about 1-2 inches above the water but under my swim platform. The noise stays outside and behind the boat, so once I get up to plane, Its quiet in the boat and you do not even hear it.

I was on a friends boat with captains call exhaust that exits the side of his boat, and he has a 350 and that thing was loud all the time. I would not beable to take it if it was that loud in the boat at all speeds, really annoying.

I am happy with mine, as it was the boat I wanted, just not the exhaust but it came with it and then I left it.
