Does anyone out there know what the fluid (liquid) is, in the compasses of Minn Kota AutoPilot trolling motors? I have a very old model and see that the level of the liquid in the compass reservoir is less than half full and I want to put more fluid in it. It has a removable screw that will allow more liquid to be put in, say with a needle and syringe. From all of the posts on this topic and common problem of the unit osculating off course, my last resort before buying a new trolling motor is to try this as a fix. It is plain to see that the compass mechanism is hanging up because there is not enough fluid in the reservoir anymore. By texture and smell, I think it might be mineral oil but am looking for confirmation. Anyone know?
