If you know what it should be, have a sign shop make a vinyl decal and place it on a piece of aluminum plate

This is interesting. My 97, 1950 Lund Tyee Magnum is suspiciously missing the capacity tag. I'm guessing it must have been re-carpeted at some point. I thought that tag was like an official Coast Guard regulated tag.
So if one went to a sign shop to have a capacity tag made, couldn't you essentially call out whatever h.p and capacity you wanted? Within reason. . .

You could and if there was an accident and the boat had more weight or HP then original manufacture had specified, there may be an issue. Said as a non-legal anything

I'm not saying I would do that by any means. I'm just saying that someone could do that for some reason if they wanted to.

In the interest of keeping everything "original", I wouldn't imagine the boat manufacturer (Lund in my case) would make a duplicate tag dating back to 1997 if I supplied them with the HIN.

Not too long ago, 5yrs maybe, Sea Nymph would re-issue a capacity 'plate' for @ $30... No idea whether it was an engraved/stamped plate ala original, a vinyl wrap 'sticker' that you applied to your own plate then mounted or simply applied the wrap to your hull somewhere...

Well, maybe I could get a hold of Lund somehow and see if they would re-issue a tag.
