I'm wanting to have a black canvas hatch cover made for the round hatch on my boat's foredeck:

I was thinking black sunbrella fabric because it would perfectly match the canvas top. But I'm not sure if that would be rough on the hatch "glass" (whatever its made of). Is there a better material then sunbrella I could ask for, maybe something thats lined on the inside? Also, what sort of retention system is usually used on something like this; elastic around the edges or maybe a drawstring with clip?

I know theres at least one professional canvas maker on here (fireman) Help me out

...loud and clear...

Black Sunbrella would be fine. There's no need to worry about scratching the glass. Once the canvas gets worked a bit, it becomes very soft. Aside from that, I usually line them with a soft finished cotton material. And, yes, an elastic binder would work out perfectly fine, as also would a drawstring.

If you want, send me the specific dimensions and I'll make it up.

Re: Canvas hatch covers

Such service! :) Thanks much.

I will have to measure the hatch when I get to my garage, I don't know the dimensions off hand and the boat isn't stored at home. I'll shoot you a PM when I know the size.

OK....

1) Get me the width across the black glass.

2) Then the width of the silver looking trim piece.

3)Then the overall width of the hatch. (Check the attached pic)

Will do! I will probably be with the boat on saturday... Hopefully on the water, maybe just in the garage. Weather dependent.

Re: Canvas hatch covers

Got my cover from Fireman431, and I must say it is sweet. Test fit it yesterday, and fits perfect. I had to make it my own (the skull & bones), hopefully he does not disapprove of my modification.

For some reason I forgot my camera (aka, my phone) at home so I have no on-boat pics yet. So here's a pic of the Stingray prior to last weekend's outing; you can use your imagination ;)

(please no stern words regarding trailering with my bimini up... The river is just on the other side of that road you see in the background. My trailer does not see much mileage).

Cool! Love the mod, but you should have told me. I would have had it embroidered in!

Nice boat. Nice hatch cover. Don't forget to take it off when running. I've had friends lose their covers that way.

Sea ya...

Shouldn't need to remove it. It has a drawstring base which goes under the bottom lip of the glass.

I've wanted these on the last boat and want to do them on the new boat! Nice upgrade.

Here's a pic on the boat. I am sure I could run with the cover on due to the design and as Fireman noted the drawstring.

I really dont like to think how much money I have in this car... Since I got back to NY I have put less then 300 miles on it in 3 years, and zero time on the track..

Very nice! I hear you on having a car and not using it. I have one that I take out every so often. Used to race it some and havent been in a few years...
