Can't tilt engine

Hey,

Just bought a new 8hp tohatsu and I can't get the engine to tilt up. Seems like something is holding it, and keeping me from being able to tilt it.

Any ideas?

It's supposed to tilt in N or F. Mine only tilts in F. I can work around that by lifting that bare aluminum piece about half way down the shaft, though forward works well enough. I plan to have a dealer fix it at some point, but am not making a special trip in-season, but to deal with it now.

The guru or others may have a simpler fix for you (and me).

It is designed so that you have to lift up slightly on the knob while you are trying to tilit the engine.

Assuming that's the knob for the tilt release, I've been doing that lifting and assumed he was as well, but assumptions are often incorrect.
