trying to get the trim tab off of a pre alpha mercruiser outdrive. The bolt appears stripped. what is a sure fire method to get that off with tools at home.
What kind of wrench are you using? With the Alphas, some of them are allen head bolts and some are 3/8" bolts. You should be able to see it by looking down the hole with a flashlight. If it really is stripped then I've had decent luck with Irwin bolt extractor sockets if you can fit it through the hole.
If it's a stripped out allen head, either drill it out with a bit that just fits inside the stripped out head, or if a zinc anode, just melt it off with a torch. Zinc has a very low melting temp.
