Can't stay in neutral and rev engine

I recently bought a 1984 glasstream...my first boat, it has a 115 Merc. Everything runs fine, once it starts...The problem I have is that the button that disengages the prop and allows you to "give it gas" in neutral isn't working properly...any ideas???

i think its disconnected possibly or it just needs adjustment
