I have a 1990 19" Glastron with a 4.3 Mercruiser. There is apparently no visible choke. It refuses to start in cool weather. Boat mechanic says there is an auto choke, but have been told by a different mechanic it doesn't. Cany anyone help with this engine?

Re: Can't Start

I am probably the last person to give advice on anything mechanical, but if you go back about 12 posts you will see i asked a question similar to yours for my Mercruiser 305 228hp.
The advice I recieved was excellant and just maybe it may help you too.
Keep in mind our daytime winter temp seldom falls below 20 degree C so it is not exactly a cold climate I live in.
Cheers
Phil

hello
next time post your engine model and seriel. it is not uncommon to have late model EFI motors in older hulls. if the motor has a carburator it has or at least had a choke. if it is a later FI motor there is no choke as all the airvalve does is meter air. thus vacum has no effct on fuel delivery hence no choke.
good luck and keep posting.

Yep, IF your motor Doesn't have a Choke, You'll have to replace what Used to be there.....
IF the Choke Is There, Fix it....

You'll Never get it to Start Right, With out a Choke......
