Hi everyone. Thanks for reading

So I just got a used motor
It's a 1998 mercury 8hp 2 stroke
It have very low hours and looks almost new

Here's the problem. It sat in a basement for 3 years without being touched.
I put on my stand and put in bucket of water. Some new gas/oil in tank. Give it about 10 pulls an nothing

Checked plugs. Super dirty!!! Gave them an good clean. Another ten pulls and nothing.

I checked plugs. Strong spark. Good compression. But they didn't seem wet at all, even After 20/30 pulls

The small fuel filter has very small amount of gas in it. Should it be full???? Is this my problem??

I've never had a newer motor like this. I have been using a 60s 8hp Chrysler, and a 70s 9.8 merc. Even a eska, I could allways trouble shoot me get them to start. I done want to pull this one a million times and burn it out. Planning on keeping this one for awhile

Any ideas would be great. Thanks everyone!!!

have you tried squirting some pre mix into the carb to see if its getting fuel. It should have a manual enricher that dose the same thing but the floats may be stuck from sitting with fuel or a clogged jet. And do not use starting fluid.

Il try that tonight. Should my fuel filter be full? It only has a tiny amount of gas in it after I give the ball a couple pumps

Well, I usually squeeze the ball until it'spretty hard. You can take the fuel line off the carb and squeeze the bulb to check that the carb is receiving fuel, also take the drain screw from the float bowl and see if it has fuel in it. If the plugs are dry though, the carb is likely clogged and I would imagine that you will have to take the carb apart and clean it spotless, blow out the jets and check the float and needle etc. Or I guess you could try spraying it full of powertune first and see if that works to unclog it.

So I took line from carb. Squeezed like crazy and nothing. Took the line off the bottom of filter. Tried blowing air through it, a solid ball of sludge came out....... Cleaned line very well. Reinstalled. Couple pumps. And BOOOOM first pull starts right up!!!!

It's was a little smokey. Any idea what the fuel/ oil mix is for it???

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!
YOUR AMAZING!!!!!!!!
