Can't shift out of reverse...

Hi everyone...<br />I am having problems with my OB. I can move the shifter smoothly (with engine off) through the forad position, and neutral. But once I put it in reverse it gets jammed. I took apart the control box and rebuilt it with the help of the service manual. It operates fine dissconnected from the engine. As soon as I reattach it the unit jams. I also can't put the OB in revse on the motor itself. <br />I already started by replacing the cables. <br /><br />1977 70hp mercury <br /><br />Any ideas?<br />Thanks<br />Jim

maybe your not installing your lower unit right, read the posts for lower unit, if you follow that to the T, It should work. I don't know alot, but I just had a similiar problem with my '62 KH 500, and that was it.<br /><br />Hope that helps.

Well, I haven't had the lower unit off this motor for some time, so I can rule that out. <br /><br />Thanks for the ideas,<br />Jim
