I was just given a little mercruiser inflatable boat with a 15 hp Mercury 2 stroke motor attached. This is a 2003 model motor/boat, Model Number: 1015201CD

I know very little about boat motors, but what i do know is they have a water pick up that cools the motor. I'd like to be able to run the motor in my driveway and give it a tune up and make sure it runs good before i let my son take it out on the water, but for the life of me i cant seem to locate where it pulls the water in!! 30 years ago when my dad had an outboard motor on his boat, it was on the lower unit and we hooked up a water hose to an adapter that wrapped around the unit. Well, i purchased one of those things from Walmart this week, and i'll be darned if i can figure out where the water pick up is on this motor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking under the cavatation plate, just above the prop. My 9.8 is there.

yanno, i saw what i "thought" was a place for water to be drawn in there (little screen looking thing with small holes in it) and thought.....naaaaaaaaaa, that cant be it! How the heck do you hook a hose up to THAT thing in order to run the motor out of water????

That screen on the bottom of the cavitation plate is the water intake.

The only way I can think of is to put the foot in a drum or a five gallon bucket. You can't run the prop in a bucket, but you can run the motor for a short time.
