cant plane out

have a 1970 mercury mercruiser 160 hp. stait 6 just got it put in new plugs and wires cleaned everything as far as carbs. can get 6000 rpm out of the water but in the water only about 2500 rpm. have 15 and one half by 19 prop. when i am alone in the boat it will plane but if one more person is in it it wont. the boat is 18 ft century :( . not sure of the weight. iv read all the other boards and i cant seem to find anything simular. would love any help, i am stumped.

DO NOT spin that thing to 6 grand in nuetral or out of the water.<br /><br />I believe I heard on the web they don't make RPM's but tourque their way along. Try dropping some pitch or diameter.

I have a 15x19 prop on my 19'Allmand. I also have a Chrysler 360 that has 320hp. I top out at 4800 rpm's somewhere around 65 mph. I think you may want to go down a bit but that can't be the only problem. Every inch down is only a couple hundred rpm's.

thanks for the advice . would you have any idea wich prop i should use, dont know the weight of my boat but it seats 6 and can hold 600 lbs.

Call a dealer and get the part # for the prop your boat came with.Then check it out on line. Its always cheeper. Who ever made the boat (there dealer) would know. Start there.
