Well, as I previously posted, I replaced a few of my old reels this winter. I have about $100.00 to spend that I put away and decided to go to WallyWorld yesterday and look at posably replacing a couple poles to boot! I actually took a reel with me so I could check the balance and all, I spent about an hour looking at rods! Price wasnt as much of a factor as the way they felt! Problem was, there were so many choices I went home empty handed! The quality of all the new rods are awesome! I think I liked the Berkley Lightning Rods the best!

Im in the market for a new style bag type tackle storage system too, the big one they had was great, Had boxes for spinnerbaits and everything else I could think of putting in it. I think it was about $50.00, I think Im sold on that one. So two rods, and a new tackle storage bag will shoot $100.00.

Just rambling cause Im on my lunch break!

Absolutly none!! No good at all! I know youre poking fun, but I like the Idea of getting rid of all the plastic boxes sliding around in the boat! I can put everything in one place and put it up towards the front of the boat. I figure Ill put a couple of hooks and a light bungie to hold it up there while going accross the Lake! Also when I get home all I have to do is grab one bag to put away! Also this will force me to sort through all the tackle I have, and believe me, I have a lot of tackle. Im a little behind time on this one, as I know most of the Bass guys have gone to this years ago.

I did like you did with the hooks and bungee, but I got rid of that stupid bag, once the boxes are out of it, it just gets in the way. Alot of wasted space in them too.

Lube dude, before you spend your $$$ at wally world take a look at the quarrow rods. I know I have posted about these rods before and must sound like a commercial. But these rods are loomis quality at a lot less money. I am hooked on em. I have a berkley lighting rod and its OK, but does not compare to the quality of the quarrow. Even the bottom of the line quarrows are really great rods for the buck. If you fish as much as I do you will appreciate these rods.

http://www.quarrow.com/

Man, if I spent $140.00 for a fishing rod, I think Id be afraid to use it, way out of my league! Im not ashaimed to admit it either! The quality of the Berkly rods I saw is plenty good for me.

25 Years ago when I was fishing tournaments and in a Bass Club, a freind and I wanted to be the first to own a Boron rod in the club, We each spent $100.00 on a Browning Boron rod in 1979. Man that was a lot back then, but we were the first. That rod is at the bottom of Ten Mile Lake at this very moment. Tried and tried but just couldnt find it, I even hired a diver and he couldnt find it either.

If you get rid of the bag, you have the plastic boxes running all over again! The Idea is to put the boxes back after you take them out. Only takes a minute. I have to admit that I like the pull out drawers Ive seen on some of the offshore boats, but there isnt room for those in a Bass Boat.

LubeDude, if your lookin for an inexpensive rod. Give Walmart a try. I am a custom rodbuilder myself and most of the rods I sell are $150+. I used to be the sporting goods manager there and I ordered some pretty nice rods. The main reason for telling you to buy them there is because if you break the $40 rod 2 years from now. Just take it in and they'll exchange it for you...No questions asked. Its pretty sorry but my friends fish with my nice custom Graphite USA rods and I fish with the cheap stuff.......Warren

Lube dude quarrow has some fine rods in the 50 60 dollar range. If you click on the ML1 tab at the top you will see them. For twenty more bucks than wallmart you are getting a quality rod that will last a lifetime. Yep lifetime warrenty.

Re: Cant make up my mind!

Lubedude, I'm not saying not to check out quarrow or any of the other suggestions but I'm a fan of the Berkley Lightining rods. I've owned several and have always been pleased with action, sensitivity and durability for the money. I'm a serious recreational fisherman whose advice to my friends is to buy the best you can afford and I can't stand junk or stuff that doesn't work well. These rods IMHO offer excellent value. I pursue many different species from smallstream trout on my ultr-lights to small mouth and largemouth bass, walleye, cats and 30lb+ stripers in the Hudson River. For the stripers I use Ugly Stiks and Cabellas Depthmaster, but everything else is with the Lightning. Good luck and tight lines.

Re: Cant make up my mind!

If you already have a bunch of plastic boxes, just buy an appropriate sizes gym bag/sportbag. I picked on up at Kmart for $12.99. It has a small pocket at each end, each pocket hold 2 medium sized boxes. A net type pocket on the side. And the big center compartment holds 5 of the JUMBO boxes.

I still like my St. Croix rod. The Premier series runs about $75 retail.
