My steering wheel would get stuck when I turned all the way to the left, it would stick when trying to turn it back to the left. I took the advice of several people on the bulletin and tried to take the cable out of the plastic tube. Well I cant figure out how to get it off the metal shaft that slides into the steering arm.

140 Evinrude , Year unknown , cant find a number on the engine anywhere?

I dont have a manual yet, trying to learn as I go along , any secrets or tricks that could help?

Thanks

Re: Cant get the steering cable off the outboard

Jstooks1, Are you saying that it wont come out OR are you unsure how to attempt to take it off.

On the side of the engine where the flexible part of the cable enters the engine ther eis a Bolt 1" or better, loosen that all the way. On the other side; there is the arm that has to be unbolted from the larger steel rod that protrudes from the engine. After you have done this, it should pull through.

If you've done this and still NG, then look at the post below call HELP steering jammed for additional suggestions.
